TOINE THYS TRIO (Français - Neérlandais - Japonais )

Belgian saxophonist Toine Thys presents his new group, the TOINE THYS TRIO.  The rhythm section is made of two of the best dutch jazz musicians: Hammond Organist Arno Krijger (Billy Hart, James Scofield.), and drummer Joost van Schaik (Toots Thielemans, Curtis Fuller, Philip Catherine…).
In this new trio, Toine Thys brings an intense and energetic, yet joyfull music.

They first CD, “The End Of Certainty” came out in the fall of  2010 on Bartok Records, and is warmly welcomed byJazz lovers and musical critics.
As a leader as well as sideman, Toine became through the years a key figure of Jazz and improvised music of Belgium and Europe. In the many groups he is leading or playing with, Toine is appreciated for his stage performances, as well as his impressive composition input.
Together with organist Arno Krijger, and talented drummer Joost van Schaik, they play standards, and new compositions of Thys, bringing further the sound spectrum of this type of line up. Hammond organ, surprising instrument, brings warmth and massa to the band sound.
Krijger is one of the few Hammond player  playing melodies on the keyboard, basslines with the feet, the way Larry Young and Jimmy Smith did. He is on his own the keyboard player, and the basplayer of the group. He is considered as one of the best european musician.
The Hammond Organ sound blends perfectly with the saxophones improvisations, the complicity is obvious. On several tracks, Toine Thys soulful bassclarinet sound brings mystery and fragility to this robust trio.

RACKHAM (Francais - Neérlandais - Japonais)

NEW CD OUT IN NOVEMBER 2011: SHOOT THEM ALL

The Belgian band RACKHAM releases a new album in November 2011 called
SHOOT THEM ALL, which pushes even further the limits of the genre.

Toine Thys (bass clarinet and saxophone) is accompanied on the cd by Benjamin Clement on guitars, Eric Bribosia on keyboards (Black Light Orchestra, S.W.A.N.), Steven Cassiers on drums (Dez Mona), and Nathan Wouters on bass.

After their first cd JUANITA K. (2006), SHOOT THEM ALL offers 10 new songs, music of a movie yet to be realized.

RACKHAM, the hybrid project of jazzman Toine Thys, flirts with rock, jazz and pop, to name but a few musical 'genres' related.. It goes far beyond the bounderies established for the benefit of a creative music, which will confuse the musical tagger.

SHOOT THEM ALL is a careful production down the smallest details. Under the artistic direction of the Antwerp Joris Caluwaerts (Milow, Zita Swoon, Stuff), the band opted for the use of old equipment (vintage microphones and amplifiers, analog keyboards from the ’80th, Hammond organ…) for a warmer sound.

Ennio Morricone, The Cinematic Orchestra or Daniel Lanois are never far away.

The name RACKHAM comes from the famous pirate of the eighteenth century, Jack Calico Rackham, known as "Calico Jack". Excentric character, colorful, he is best known for the two famous female pirates he had among his crew...
A real villain…
